Aphonic News

2006-05-10

To all of you who have bought the album, we hope you love it. We have a lot of shows coming up, so if you are in the neighborhood of any of the cities we have listed, please come out to see us. We'd love to see you.

And a special thanks to everyone who came out to see us play with Cardboard Cowboy. Those guys are great, and let's hope they come back to the U.S. soon. Check the gallery for some great photos.

Recently we moved into our new rehearsal space. It's the biggest space we've ever had, and has taken some work. Right now it's still deafeningly loud--the walls and floors are all bare--but soon it will be the space we've dreamed up for months. It's also part of a well kept secret here in Detroit. There must be twenty-some bands in the whole wharehouse, and rumors have been floating around about a weekly video-cast that might be in the works. We'll keep everyone updated.

Oh yeah, and thanks to everyone who turned up at that crazy party on Sunday. I guess we'll have to do another one soon. Check out the photos--these are hilarious, but won't be up forever.

2006-03-28

Thanks as usual to everyone who has bought our new album. Really, we hope you love it.

The one year anniversary party of the Detroit Music Magazine, The Record, really went well. Maybe it was a bit loud, maybe a bit overcrowded—but the magazine is still alive, thanks to luck. We had a great time in St Joseph, too, thanks to everybody who showed up!

You can check out the new photo gallery to see photos from the most recent gigs too. We’ve just added a few shots from Jumbo’s, (Detroit,) on the 24th of March and Czar’s, (St. Joseph, MI,) on the 25th. In the future we’ll have more and more shots posted from each show.

Wednesday is going to be great, even if we don’t know how the whole 20-piece jazz orchestra is going to fit on the Fifth Ave. stage. So come check us out downtown next to the new Tiger’s Stadium!

Thanks to everyone who has ordered a copy of Why it Sometimes Feels Good. It’s good to know that so many people are listening. We plan to have some smarmy T-shirts ready for the One Year Anniversary for the Detroit music journal, The Record. The party will be at Jumbo’s Bar in Detroit. Last time Aphonic and The Record teamed up at Jumbos, the night turned red with debaucheries. This time it’s an anniversary. Check out our dates for details and directions. Here is a message from the publisher of The Record, Joe Giuliani (is that even his real name? …not to start unfounded rumors):

To all the friends, fans, freaks and fools who love The Record. This month is the 1-year anniversary of Detroit's Music Journal. To celebrate this very uncanny milestone, we will be throwing a party on Fri, March 24 at--you guessed it--Jumbo's Bar, the site of the last hoedown (Oh, how I love this little bar) Jumbo's is at 3736 Third St. in Midtown, Detroit. (Remember people, this time, no ripping down ceiling tiles) So consider this your invitation. The music lineup for the night is Aphonic, The Red Rocks and AKA Mabus. Three awesome bands, cheap drinks, and as a special treat for all you ladies, your favorite back-page columnist, Mike McHone will be in a kissing booth. So get there early girls because you know there will be a line out the door to pucker up with Mr. McHone. This month's issue of the magazine is sort of a retrospective. The March coverstory is the whole sordid, depraved and violent history of The Record. How it came together, profiles of staff members, and other general wackiness. It's on the street now, so pick it up. Do it.

Joe Giuliani
Publisher

After Jumbo’s, we are sharing a night with the Motor City Jazz Orchestra at Fifth Ave. in Detroit. We’ve never done anything quite like this, but we know it will be great. Check our upcoming dates for a lot more local and out of state shows. If you want us to play where you are, let us know and we’ll do something. Just e-mail info@aphonic.com.

OK, apologies for the delayed info. We'll be playing around 11PM and the cover should be $3. There are two other bands, one before us and one after, so feel free to hang around all night and support the other bands too.

Update

Apologies for the lack of attention to the website, things will be updated frequently from here on out. We have been moving back into the swing of live performance, and will be starting with our first show tomorrow night at the Second Story nightclub in Bloomington. We'll be playing early in the night. Expect to see us on stage around 9:30.

Come check us out at Bear's Place on Wednesday Sept. 29th too. Bear's will probably be a more acoustic set, it is a smaller stage, and much more intimate.

Also we have been mixing and doing management and prep work for other things that are going on.

MP3's should be available soon on the website again, and we will be trying to set up an aphonic streaming radio online. Check back for updates, and if you'd like to listen to our music in the meantime, send matt and email.

Thanks for all the patience!

Our show two nights ago at Arlene's was interesting, but came off well considering the circumstances: nowhere to park the rig, sound issues, no sleep, and of course we had to use but half of our equipment. Now we're ready to make our way back home, leaving NYC just after this update (8AM Sunday Feb 1.)

We finally have a few live recordings online. More may show up in the near future, we have many recordings to sort through, but for now check them out on the audio page. we also just got ahold of a new video , Summer Jam Live at Joe's Pub, September 2003. This is awesome. It's only the first half, but we've got more footage to work with in the future.

New sound engineer!

Aphonic has a new sound engineer. Andew Davis, from Detroit has returned as a touring sound engineer. We've played 3 shows with him, and each has been awesome. Andrew has been working with Matt and Pat since the late 1990's, and now he's with us and making all the difference. Thanks Andrew.

We'd also like to mention that we won't be in NYC for another 3 weeks or so in light of preparation for a number of shows on spring break, (March 13th - 21st.) We'll gig next at Pianos on the 21st of February.

Finally, we've got some brand new songs recorded live coming soon. We hope to see you in a few weeks!

-Aphonic.

2004-01-03

Happy New Year! Aphonic has two shows scheduled so far this month, we've got a show at Piano's on the 24th

We will also have a few live recordings on the website. We just recieved a few recordings of shows from last year as well as some videos, so as soon as we can get them compressed we'll put them online.

Have a happy new year and we hope to see you on the 24th!

-Aphonic.

Many thanks to Bryan Bruchman from subinev.com for recording a video of our show this past Monday. [ Biting Our Thumbs, Live @ Pianos, 12.22.2003 ] (8.4 Mb, Apple Quicktime.) He submitted it to us today, and for now it'll remain a link on the news site. He also provided a few great shots of our Pianos show that should be up by tomorrow.

Sooner than later we'll have a greatly updated pictures page with links to videos too.

We'd also like to mention that some band we played with on Monday left a cymbal on the stage, and we have it safe and sound, if you email Matt with a description of it, we'll send you an address, and if you pay shipping we'll send it to you right away.

2003-12-23

A million thanks to all who showed up at the gig last night! The show felt great and people seemed to love it.
We loved playing the show and we probably won't play any more shows before the new year, check back for an updated gig schedule so you can check us out again!
Also, we will begin selling CD's soon on our website! We'll send out an email when the change has been made. As always email Matt if you want to get on the mailing list.

If you have pictures or video you took of any of our shows and you think we might like it on our site, feel free to email Matt and send them. Or if you would like to send via snail mail, email and ask where to send it!

Again, thanks a million to all who made our last two shows so awesome.

Happy Holidays and we'll see you next year!

An update - Thanks again to all who have seen the site, we're now ranked #1 on both Google and Yahoo! Cheers.

The Gig at Tribeca Rock Club was great fun, come check us out Monday at Pianos! And see the previous news update for information on a performance this Saturday, the 20th.

Mis-labeling on CD's
We would like to note that the second pressing of 'Airport Bars,' which was sold on dec. 18th at Tribeca Rock club has a mistake on the labels. The bonus track labeled "Something Missed (live)" is not "Something Missed" at all, it is a song that has never been recorded previously, "Summer Jam." We're sorry about the misprint.

Thanks for checking up, we should have some live recordings on the site shortly.
